What is Giving Day?

Giving Day is a one-day fundraising event on March 7, for all members of the University of Maryland community. Students, faculty, staff, parents, friends and alumni are invited to join the largest day of giving because we are all Terps! The goal is to raise critical funding and engage our community to advance the mission of the University of Maryland.

How do I make an impact on Giving Day?

It’s easy! Make a gift in support of your favorite school, college or program. When you do, you’ll also help it earn matching funds! Then post about your gift. Tweet about it. And email it. Encouraging others to participate spreads your impact even further.

Is it safe to make my gift online?

Absolutely. Giving Day utilizes a technology called Kimbia that is PCI Level 1-compliant. Credit card information will not be stored and is not accessible to Kimbia. The contact information you provide to the University of Maryland will remain private and secure.

Is there a minimum gift amount?

The University of Maryland is accepting gifts of $10 or more during Giving Day.

What can I do to help get the word out about Giving Day?

Please tell your friends about Giving Day by posting on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using #GivingDayUMD. Take advantage of the sharable content in the toolkit. Is my Giving Day contribution tax-deductible?

Gifts to support the University of Maryland are tax-deductible, with the exception of gifts to the Terrapin Club (please see below). You will receive an email confirmation that will serve as your receipt for tax purposes. Please consult your tax adviser if you have questions.

Is my Terrapin Club gift still tax-deductible?

No. As a result of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (H.R. 1), effective January 1, 2018, no charitable deduction shall be allowed for any amount for a payment to an institution of higher education in exchange for which the payor receives the right to purchase tickets or seating at an athletic event. What are the leaderboards?

Schools and programs across campus will be competing for a portion of $70,000 in matching funds! As donors make gifts, the results are displayed on the leaderboards in real-time. Every unit will earn bonus funds. Only the top few groups win in the Student Organization and Greek Life challenges. Help them earn more by making a gift and spreading the word.

Why is 'Other' a fund option?

Donors may support specific funds within schools and colleges by selecting 'Other' and typing in the specific program. Each 'Other' selection must have one clear designation, and the gift amount of unique 'Other' gifts can't be split. If you need help searching for fund names, please visit and type in the search field.

How do I make multiple gifts?

Start by selecting the first unit you would like to support. Use the drop-down menu to direct your gift to a specific fund, then enter the amount you wish to allocate to that fund. To add another gift to your total, click the green circle with the plus sign. All multiple gifts count toward unit totals.
